NOTES

Big Bites and Better Weather: Live Bait Success with Guide Zach McClendon

Lake Texoma - Marshall, OK

The spring season is in full swing on Lake Texoma, and the striped bass are responding beautifully to the warming water temperatures. As we move through May, the bite has become more consistent, making it a perfect time for both family fishing trips on Lake Texoma and serious anglers looking for quality numbers.

Current Conditions and Tactics The water temperature is sitting in the ideal range for active feeding. We are currently seeing a lot of success with live bait striper fishing on Lake Texoma. Fresh shad has been the ticket to getting the bigger fish to commit. While the average catch is staying in the healthy 22 to 26-inch range, we are starting to see more of those solid 28-inch-plus fish showing up on the electronics.

Primary Target: Striped Bass

Secondary Action: White bass are schooling heavily in the afternoons, providing fast-paced fishing for those looking to keep the rods bent.

Best Techniques: Working the ledges and flats with live bait; some early morning topwater action is just starting to heat up near the banks.

The Lake Texoma Advantage One of the reasons our guided fishing trips on Lake Texoma are so productive right now is the lake's unique natural reproduction. Because these fish are born and raised in this river system, their behavior is predictable for a seasoned Lake Texoma fishing guide who knows the underwater terrain. We’ve been focusing our efforts on the transition zones where the fish are moving out of their spawning patterns and looking to feed aggressively.

What’s Biting on the Bigfoot Stripers Boat? Our 24ft Bay Hawk has been busy, and the 200HP Suzuki is getting us to the schools quickly. Recent trips have seen limits reached early, especially on our morning charters.

Catfish Update: For those interested in the Lake Texoma blue catfish guide experience, the larger blues are still hanging out in the deeper channels, and we’ve boated several impressive fish over 20 pounds this week.

Pro Tip: If you are joining us soon, remember to bring your Lake Texoma Fishing Permit (Type 208) so we can cross state lines freely to follow the schools.

Plan Your Next Trip Whether you want a half day striper fishing trip or a full day on the water, the next few weeks are projected to be some of the best of the year. The fish are hungry, the weather is manageable, and the "Bigfoot" is ready to go.
